Francisco H. G. Ferreira is the Amartya Sen Professor of Inequality Studies at the London School of Economics (LSE), where he is also the Director of the International Inequalities Institute. He works in welfare and development economics and is also an Affiliated Professor in the Department of Social Policy at LSE, a Research Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA), and an Affiliated Scholar at the Stone Center on Socio-Economic Inequality at the City University of New York. He is a Past President of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic Association.

Ferreira’s research focuses on the measurement of poverty and inequality, including inequality of opportunity, with a particular emphasis on developing countries. He has contributed to the theory of wealth distribution dynamics and the interaction between economic inequality and political economy. His published works include articles in leading journals such as the Journal of Applied Econometrics, the Journal of Public Economics,, and the Journal of Development Economics. He is currently leading two major initiatives: the Latin American and Caribbean Inequality Review and the Global Estimates of Opportunity and Mobility database.

Ferreira worked for 24 years at the World Bank, serving as Deputy Chief Economist for Latin America, Chief Economist for the Africa Region, and Senior Advisor in the Research Department. He continues to serve on advisory boards for the World Bank’s Poverty and Equity Global Practice and for the Inter-American Development Bank.

His work has been widely recognized in international media, with mentions in The Economist, The Financial Times, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, BBC Radio and Television, CNN International, and prominent Latin American outlets such as Globo Television (Brazil) and La Tercera (Chile).
