Visiting Scholar: David McMillon
Summary
David McMillon visited the Stone Center from August 14 to August 16to collaborate on a research initiative with Faculty Director Steven Durlauf focused on conceptualizing, modeling, and measuring systemic discrimination and its role in amplifying inequality. This research agenda aimed to yield three distinct research papers. Under Steven Durlauf’s mentorship, David McMillon’s first project was a solo-authored paper characterizing the technical features that make systemic discrimination “systemic.” The remaining projects were co-authored. The second paper was intended for submission to Philosophy and Public Affairs. It explored the philosophical concept of passive injustice and its role in systemic discrimination. Lastly, the third paper was dedicated to measurement developed in collaboration with faculty from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
