Visiting Scholar: Luis Garicano
Summary
Luis Garicano conducts research that focuses on the impact of organization and technology on aggregate economic variables like wage distribution, productivity, or economic growth. He studies why organizations and institutions fail and how to design them better, as well as how specific digital technologies are transforming the economy, such as business-to-business electronic commerce, portable computing, enterprise resource planning, or blockchain. His findings have shown that it is the interaction between technology and its implementation through organizational change that really matters to induce productivity and change.
Garicano visited the Stone Center on May 19, 2023. He held faculty office hours, consulting with six faculty members at the Stone Center, to offer guidance on research focused on the European Union’s economic direction, challenges, and potential future developments, informed by his research and recent three-year tenure as a Member of the European Parliament.
