Maria Adelaida Martinez is an Assistant Professor of Economics at Bentley University. Her work focuses on development economics, migration, and education. Currently, she is studying how shocks to migration flows in and out of educational systems in Latin America affect children’s schooling outcomes and parents’ decision-making.

From 2023-2024, she was a Postdoctoral Scholar at the Development Innovation Lab at the University of Chicago. Prior to earning her Ph.D., she worked for the Social Sector at the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB).

Martinez is originally from Colombia and holds a B.A. and M.A. in Economics from the Universidad de los Andes. She received her Ph.D. in Public Policy Studies from the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy in 2023.
