Research to help build a society, from the bottom up.
Naomi Zewde conducts research to inform the design of public policies that promote equity in health and wealth, from insurance to baby bonds. At UCLA, Zewde teaches the economics and policy analysis courses to Master of Public Health students.
Her research examines topics like:
- Does high deductible health insurance protect households’ wealth and health in a context of wealth inequality and a racial wealth gap?
- Do public policies like baby bonds or student debt cancellation better promote wealth?
- Does public healthcare coverage, via Medicaid, alleviate poverty and home eviction? (appears so!)
- Do we need insurer-managed care in Medicaid? Or does more direct financing improve health and fiscal impacts?
