In recent years, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has faced increasing scrutiny regarding its treatment of student-athletes. Concerns about compensation, healthcare, and Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) rights have ignited a broader debate about the intersection of NCAA labor relations and social issues, including racial equity, labor relations, and gender inequality. As a result, the industry has undergone significant changes, prompting a reevaluation of practices and policies to address disparities.

Stone Center Associate Director Damon Jones, sports analyst Bomani Jones, Princeton Professor of Economics and Stone Center Affiliate Ilyana Kuziemko, Booth Professor of Economics Matthew J. Notowidigdo, and Professor Emeritus, Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, Kenneth L. Shropshire, discussed the state of NCAA athletic labor relations, the racial dynamics therein, and what, if at all, this has to do with broader labor struggles and inequality.

This event was co-sponsored by the Center for the Study of Race, Politics & Culture.
